  about myself

After completing her degree at UA in 1996, Frankie moved to Houston immediately to begin her studies with renowned voice instructor Steven Smith, then a UH professor and now on faculty at The Juilliard School. During her graduate studies, Frankie taught private voice and piano for two semesters as part of her degree requirements in pedagogy.

It was also during this time that Frankie began singing professionally at The Great Caruso restaurant (a bistro that, at the time, featured live opera and musical theater performances) and with the Unity Theatre in Brenham. She continued performing in Houston until the fall of 1999, when she graduated with her Master’s and was accepted into the prestigious Florida Grand Opera Young Artists Program. She spent a year in Miami, studying and attending Master Classes with some of the greatest teachers in the United States, performing supporting roles on the main stage at FGO, and brushing shoulders with the finest talent in American Opera. Impressing the program’s organizers and underwriters, Frankie was invited back to Miami for a second year.

It was at the end of her time with FGO that Frankie was accepted into the highly acclaimed Centro Studi Italiani in Urbino, Italy for the Summer of 2001. This is a summer program that attracts top performers and instructors from around the world and through which Frankie was able to forge relationships with teachers from The Juilliard School, the Curtis Institute of Music and the Manhattan School of Music.

The next year brought a wedding for Frankie and acceptance into the Music Outreach program of the Cincinnati Opera. Frankie spent the winter and spring in Ohio with this program, and at its conclusion, was invited to stay for the summer as well, to take a role in their main stage production of Roméo et Juliette.

At the end of 2002, Frankie returned to Houston with her husband, where they have remained since. While in town, Frankie has performed with the Houston Grand Opera on numerous occasions, and welcomed the birth of a baby daughter. Motherhood has required that Frankie cut back on opportunities in the professional arena, so she has redirected her performative knowledge and energies back to teaching.
